Part 2

This is driving, the DSA are looking to see that you drive in the correct manner at a high standard, the test is usually for an hour.
The drive will include, town driving, manoeuvres, rural roads, dual carriageways and motorway driving.
They are looking for a brisk professional drive, dealing with all road and traffic conditions, planning well ahead and dealing with hazards accordingly. Making sure you use your mirrors effectively.

You will also be asked some show me / tell me questions

You are allowed, no more than 6 minors faults.


The way you drive is the way you will teach and the way you teach is the way you drive.
So it is important that you meet the requirement as you are responsible for turning out the country’s new driver.

You can only take this test 3 times.

If you fail your 3rd attempt you will have to go back to the beginning and pass your part1 again, and take your driving ability test again.


When you have passed your Driving ability test “Part 2” you can, if you wish, go out on a trainee licence.

Before going out on a Trainee Licence you must do 40hrs of training, so that you can charge for lessons.

When you have done your 40 hours. your training establishment will sign a form called an 'ADI 21T' this will allow you to apply for a pink licence (trainee licence) which will last for 6 months.

However, to operate under a Trainee licence you must be sponsored by a qualified Driving Instructor or Driving School.

You must have at least 20 hours of additional training within the first 3 months or 1 hour in every 5 supervised.

You may choose to go the direct route and go straight for the green licence, especially if you are in full time employment.
