A pupil of mine went for a test at Borehamwood. He informed the examiner that he has difficulty with remembering where left or right is and asked for the examiner to point in the direction they wanted him to go. She refused. As he approached stirling corner he asked the examiner to confirm the direction and she remained silent resulting in a dangerous fault as he got confused and cut another driver up. The pupil cancelled the test himself and i went out to rescue them.

My question is " If an examiner can give hand signals to the deaf, why can they not do the same for someone who does not recognise their left to their right"

Hi
I cant comment as to what was said or done on your pupils test , i can however say that some examiners will point the directions, however there have been several cases just latley that complaints have been made by candidates saying the examiner had pointed out the wrong exit or roads. It is a difficult situation for nervous candidates, all i can say is to chat with the centre manager and see if a comprimise can be reached after all that is what he is there for.

So you are on a test and have to do a emergency stop. If you have not returned to your normal driving position after passing a parked car and when doing your stop end up in the middle of the road, would that be a fail. I think it would be, but what is your opinion. :ugeek:

I would say a minor fault for positioning if anything, but each situation needs to be looked at on it's own merit. ie, did the position affect any one else? How long after passing the parked car?

On a personal note if the driving postion started to affect other road users there would be a fault how serious that fault is one would need to be there to access it.
As an examiner i would ask myself was, WHY are they in this postion is there a misunderstanding about the E.S.
many factors could be in place
